Nature’s Edge Wildlife and Reptile Rescue

Nature’s Edge Wildlife and Reptile Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit wildlife rehabilitation facility and reptile rescue. We are state and federally permitted wildlife rehabilitators. We rehab all native reptiles, bats, birds of prey and mammals on a limited basis and will help with transport of other wildlife to permitted rehabilitators. We also conduct outreach education programs around DFW

If you have found an inured or abandoned animal, please call us at (682) 463-9453. If you call us and get our voicemail, be patient, leave messages the first time you call (i.e. please don’t hang up and just call right back), we are probably either feeding or on the phone with somebody else with injured wildlife.

We are also an exotic reptile rescue and will take in all unwanted pet reptiles and amphibians. All animals that come into our care will receive necessary vet care, treatment, behavior conditioning, etc. Once an animal is deemed healthy and adoptable, it will be placed up for adoption. All potential adopters must show knowledge of species, including proper housing, food, etc., before animals can be adopted.

Nature’s Edge Wildlife and Reptile Rescue also conducts educational programs in the DFW area. We focus on wildlife conservation, life history, habitat, adaptations and identification. We also provide information on minimizing human wildlife conflicts.

I FOUND A WILD ANIMAL, NOW WHAT?

If you find a sick, injured or orphaned wild animal, get it into a box with a lid or crate with a door. You can use a towel, sheet, etc., place it over the animal, scoop the whole thing up and place in box/crate.

Place the animal in a warm, quiet area. If a baby, you can place the box half on/half off of a heating pad set on low.

Never give food or water to any animal, baby or adult. Think of it this way, if you go to the ER due to illness or injury, they don’t give you food or water until the doctor sees you.

Please do not play with wild animals. Holding them, petting them, etc. just adds to their stress.

If you are unsure if an animal needs help, please contact a wildlife rehabilitator for assistance.
